It’s our Real Living Wage accreditation anniversary! Today we’re reflecting on paying the Real Living Wage and celebrating another year since being formally acknowledged for paying a fair hourly rate to our team, coinciding with a landmark figure of 2000 organisations in Scotland now being accredited.
Here at Dear Green, we’ve been doing things differently since we kicked off in 2011. In fact, part of our ethos comes from the fact that if we had been fairly remunerated by previous employers Dear Green may never have come to pass! The foundations of the company have been driven by a moral compass and a desire to do business better!
As a certified B Corp, we are always working towards our Sustainable Development Goals and playing our part in the global community’s responsibility in ending poverty, fighting inequality and injustice, and tackling climate change. We’re proud to be part of a collective of organisations who care. People and planet before profit is at the heart of every transaction in our business.
We’re proud to pay the Real Living Wage
We’re responsible for ensuring that our team earns enough to live on, that’s huge! We’re happier than ever to say that we pay everyone at least the Real Living Wage. You can read more about our commitment to ethics here, but in a nutshell, we’re committed to being fair employers in every way we can. We have paid the Real Living Wage since 2011, and this is part of our non-negotiable ethics. We’re part of the change in an industry that could do so much better right along the supply chain.
At Dear Green, we have an open conversation for career progression, education and training and we've never hired anyone to work on less than the Real Living Wage. We care about our staff, and in turn, they care about our customers.
Looking back
When we look back at our blog post written for Real Living Wage Scotland (you can read it here) We’re reminded of our passion for fair business all over again. Since then, we’ve continued to develop our profit share bonus scheme along with several other programs investing in personal and professional development, training, well being, volunteer days and increased annual leave.
From our team members to the coffee producers we work with, we’ll always be committed to paying everyone involved fairly. That way, our coffee tastes good and does good. Since becoming a certified B Corporation, we’ve been thinking more and more about how to lessen our impact as a business - and that starts with keeping our team happy, well paid and always developing in their job role in line with the growth of Dear Green.
Looking forward
What a year it’s been for all of us! We’re going to continue to work towards our goals of making Dear Green as eco and people friendly as possible. People and planet before profit, always! If you want to follow us on our journey, why not hop over to our Instagram or sign up to our newsletter?
