Dear Green x Cardhu

We were recently invited to celebrate the 200 year anniversary of Cardhu Distillery. A Spey Valley based whisky distillery, still in operation today thanks to the pioneering efforts of firstly Helen and then Elizabeth Cummings. 

Bringing together a network of business leaders in the Scottish highlands, journalist Julia Bryce led a celebration of Scotland based female pioneers. We learned the story of Cardhu directly from Diagio Senior Archvist Joanne McKerchar, our founder, Lisa was on hand to share the story of Dear Green and we in turn were inspired by the business journeys of Jawahir Al-Mauly of Ujamaa Spice and Siobhan Mackenzie, fashion designer.

The event was kickstarted with a Dear Green x Cardhu cocktail, created by Miran Chauhan and Lucinda Parry from the Johnnie Walker Princes Street bar team.

Coined 'Coffee and Cream', this refreshing hi-ball creation was too good not to share. So here's how you can create the experience for yourself:

Ingredients:

  • Cardhu 200 Special edition.  An exclusive release by Cardhu to celebrate the 200th anniversary. On the palate, expect sweetness, red berries, cinnamon spice, demerara sugar and dark chocolate. Gentle oak spice and vanilla become more pronounced giving an extremely silky mouthfeel and a strong warming finish.
  • Dear Green - Cold Brew - We prepared this cold brew with a blend of KCRS from Rulindo, Rwanda and Bankilal from Chiapas, Mexico. A fruit forward coffee with natural sweetness, juicy acidity and flavour notes of red berries, cocoa, spice, black tea and brown sugar.
  • Bon Accord Cream Soda - Bon-Accord is a Scottish company which sells premium small-batch soft-drinks. 100% naturally sweetened, soft drinks and mixers are packaged in recyclable glass bottles. They are suitable for vegans and 100% caffeine free, meaning that more people than ever can enjoy our joyfully juicy drinks.
  • 5ml Vanilla Essence
  • 500ml Sugar Syrup (4:1)
  • 2g Black Salt
  • 700ml Whisky
  • 50ml Water
  • Ice

      Method:

      1. Prepare Dear Green Cold Brew.  Coursely grind 120g coffee, add 1 litre filtrered water, allow to brew in the fridge for 8 hours before filtering. Our more detailed recipe is here.

      2. Create Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur. Combine Cold Brew, Vanilla Essence, Sugar Syrup, Black Salt, Whisky and water.

      3. Construct beverage:

      • Fill Hi-Ball glass with ice
      • Pour 50ml Cardhu 200 Single Malt
      • Pour 50ml Dear Green Cold Brew Liqueur
      • Top with Bon Accord Cream Soda
      • Serve and enjoy!
