It's that time of year again, London Coffee Festival! This year for the 9th year we are joining our pals at La Marzocco UK, slinging espressos at the high energy True Artisan Cafe. La Marzocco ask for all exhibitors to create a signature drink to prepare during their slot on the stand and we at Dear Green love the process of creating our fun boozy concoctions!
You may remember last year we served up our Gin and Tumba! A bright, citrusy, sparkling and refreshing coffee cocktail. This went down a treat at the festival and has been a firm favourite amongst the team ever since.
This year we wanted to change direction and have opted in contrast to go for a warm cocktail. Introducing the Boozy Dirty Chai!
Loosely inspired bythe Espresso Chai-tinis served up by the lovely Devin of Minor Figures at our International Women's Day event and created to compliment the qualities of our Guatemala Finca Filadelfia espresso, we are super proud of the resulting spiced and sweet, warm and comforting, boozy twist on the classic chai tea latte.
For this recipe, we made a homemade chai syrup by stewing a blend of cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, whole black peppercorns, fresh ginger and orange peel with Assam tea in hot water for half an hour. This was then strained and mixed with a homemade simple sugar syrup. Sweet and simple (literally!).
Steam the chai syrup together with spiced rum, espresso and a milk of your choice before being topped with a garnish of cinnamon and a sprinkle of zested orange peel. Et voila! You have the Boozy Dirty Chai.
Recipe:
25ml Spiced Rum
35ml Espresso - Finca Filadelfia
35ml Chai Syrup
80ml Milk or Oat Milk
Sprinkle of Cinnamon
Orange Zest
